I find them to be kinda bland, except for the fact that they have an Int of 22. If they have combat advantage, they can instead attack with a blood-draining bite that counts as a grab and causes ongoing damage and heals the fiend untli the target can escape. They attack with their claws and with an immobilizing gaze attack. It would also make sense to say that, as uncorrupted primordial creations, they dislike demons.īlood Fiends are Level 23 Soldiers and look like four-armed, hairless gorillas with sharp teeth and claws. I wonder if they keep hunting each other to this day. It's not spelled out, but I would guess that in Fourth Edition these guys were created by the primordials to fight the gods, placing them in direct conflict with the Astral Stalkers. They hunt in packs and sometimes associate with other powerful elemental creatures (but not with demons). They're Chaotic Evil, feed on blood and love hunting for food and sport. You wouldn't be able to tell just from looking, though. That origin appears to be mostly gone, as they're not undead here.īlood Fiends are Medium elemental humanoids and thus native to the Elemental Chaos, but contrary to their name are not demons. No wonder why the poor man is so very, very fucked up psychologically disturbed. It appears that in previous editions blood fiends where what you got when you turned a demon into a vampire. Here, though it was not the death of Sam's biological father that revealed his inner monster, but the death of the only true family he ever really had: Dean, the person who embodies Sam's mother-father-brother figure. In this parallel he'd be the child of the ghoul - obsessed with vengeance, once again unable to see how his quest for vengeance is turning him into the monster he abhors. You want us to really question our ideas of good and evil, so that we can see how Sam perceives things. But from the POV of the ghoul's children John Winchester is the true monster. Here, everyone thought John Winchester did a great thing by stopping the original ghoul - who wasn't actually harming anyone. Because Cas is Dean's angel!ĮDIT: I did get the parallel the episode was trying to make - that the impact of your actions is all a matter of perspective. Oh the implications in that! Also, that Sam realized that Dean was the only one that could "summon" Cas. I loved that Dean's way out of the crypt was marked by and Angelic figure. I also believe that we did see some progression in the way that Dean is seeing Sam, because I really don't think he meant the comparison to John as a compliment to Sam. Either way, the fact of the matter is that I believe the blood loss will give the demon blood a chance to grow even stronger within Sam. Additionally, I think it is important that Sam was bleeding out because that blood is going to have to be replaced - either by a transfusion of human or Ruby supplied demon blood. He's been drinking demon blood which leads one to think that he will eventually become a demon. The important part was when the ghouls said "You are what you eat." When that statement is applied to Sam, it really implies a lot about what he is becoming. Was anyone really surprised to learn that Sam has become a carbon copy John? I didn't expect an epic revelation but something more than what we got. OK- I expected the brother to die by the end of the episode in some shape or form - but I hoped there would be something important that we learned about Sam or Dean. Since this is spoilery it's under the cut. Tell me I wasn't the only one who was a wee bit disappointed by this episode? I changed my mind! Upon further thought, I liked this ep.Īlso, did we all noticed how Cas still managed to look out for his Dean with out actually being there right )
